Apple Valley is a city situated in northwestern Dakota County. It is located about 15-20 minutes south of St. Paul City, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP), and the Mall of America.
The city has a total land area of 17.7 square miles; 17.3 square miles of which is land and 0.4 square miles is water. According to the 2000 census, there were 45,527 people, 16,344 households, and 12,405 families that called the city their home.
It was in 1974 when the community was officially declared a city. Before 1968 however, the area was known as the Township of Lebanon. The mid-1950’s was a very important period for Apple Valley real estate. Rapid development from 1956 to 1988 transformed the agrarian locale into a huge residential success.
