Brooklyn Center is a relatively small city of Hennepin County of only 8.5 square miles, .4 of which is water including North Twin Lake and Palmer Lake, popular as destinations or residences. Brooklyn Center was established as a village in 1911 after fear it would be annexed by the rapidly growing city of Minneapolis on its southeastern border.

As such it is now a first ring suburb also bordered by the cities of Robbinsdale, Crystal, Brooklyn Park and Fridley and following the banks of the Mississippi River. It is now completely urban and fairly densely populated with over 29,000 residents inside its borders.

The population of Brooklyn Center is fairly dense, similar to its neighboring Crystal and Fridley, offering single family homes as well as townhomes and abundant apartment or condominium living. It is also known for its easy commutes to downtown Minneapolis or the rest of the metro area, as it is situated on a portion of interstate 94 and interstate 694, as well as Minnesota Highways 100 and 252.

The city also prides itself on its 522 acres of parks and nature centers, affordable housing, convenient health care, accessible transportation and quality education. It is also home to Historic Earle Brown Heritage Center, a premier conference and event center with over 36,000 square feet that often hosts local events such as weddings ceremonies and receptions, conferences, conventions, meetings, speakers, and local classes. It also features over 1,800 hotel rooms within 5 minutes of the facility, perfect for out-of-town guests and groups.
