Located on the north northwest end of the Twin Cities Minneapolis and St. Paul area, Brooklyn Park is known for its diversity in its over 66,000 inhabitants. Predominantly residential, Brooklyn Park also has a variety of commercial and industrial areas and houses one of the better known local schools, North Hennepin Community College. It is also home for Rasmussen College and a branch of Hennepin Technical College. The city itself, is bordered by many smaller cities including a couple in Ramsey County along its eastern border: Coon Rapids, Fridley, Brooklyn Center, Crystal, New Hope, Maple Grove, Osseo and Champlin. Brooklyn Park also just touches Plymouth with its southwest corner, although they share no borderline.

Brooklyn Park is over 26 square miles of land and only ½ square mile of water, rare in the “Land of Ten Thousand Lakes”. Brooklyn Park can be accessed easily from several local highways: 610 runs directly through its north side, 169 follows its western border then juts in and crosses 610, 252 comes right inside its eastern border and major interstates 94/694 are accessible on the south side, giving a quick 10-20 minute commute to the downtown area.

Given its size and relative proximity to the rest of the metro, Brooklyn Park can also claim its fame from some relatively well known residents past and present: host of famous radio show “Prairie Home Companion” and author Garrison Keillor was raised in this city and graduated from Anoka High School, Kirby Puckett used to live there early in his career with wife Tonya, Minnesota Twins catcher, Tim Laudner used to reside there and Dave Lindstrom, catcher from the Detroit Tigers Minors went to school in Brooklyn Park. Also former State Governor and professional Wrestler Jesse Ventura used to live in, and was mayor of Brooklyn Park.
