The Lake Minnetonka area of Minnesota starts just west of the city of Minnetonka. Before the cities of Woodland, Wayzata and Deephaven annexed to themselves from Minnetonka, they served as the main port and access to Lake Minnetonka from the central Twin Cities area.

Now those areas serve as the eastern most portion of the Lake Minnetonka territory and give access to its other small communities such as Excelsior, Shorewood, Tonka Bay, Minnetonka Beach, Orono, Spring Park and Mound, just to name a few.

The lake itself is massive, approximately 14,000 acres, with arms, and bays and islands sprinkled throughout. Lake Minnetonka is known for its valuable Lakeshore property often dappled with beautiful and expensive mansions including the well-known Pillsbury Mansion which went up for sale in 2007 for 53 million including its almost 13 acres of land and over 1700 feet of shoreline...

Certain areas of this beautiful lake also contain restaurants, marinas, and other entertainment centers that serve as bases for the boating and water sports community nearby. The Lake Minnetonka area has also historically served as a popular resort destination. It's irregular shape and numerous bays, make it ideally intricate (if not flat out difficult) to navigate its 140 miles of shoreline whether by boat or by land.
