The area is most commonly accessed by north-south running Minnesota State Highway 65 from the metro (which turns into Central as it passes south into the cities). Other major thoroughfares include Minnesota State Highways 47, 95, 107 and 293, although 169 north is great access to the west end of the county and Interstate 35 North is excellent access to the east side.
Founded in February of 1857, Isanti County contains a total area of 452 square miles, 13 of which are water (lakes, rivers, etc.) and the remaining 439 are actual land. This may seem like quite a bit, but given that Minnesota is the “Land of 10,000 lakes”, it’s not one of the wettest counties in the land. It does contain a number of smaller lakes though. Many of these are not well known, but for seasonal cabin-goers they may be well-kept family secrets. Among these: Adams Lake, Barton Lake, Baxter Lake, Bear Lake, Beckman Lake, Big Pine Lake, Blue Lake, Brobergs Lake, Dollar Lake, Elizabeth Lake, Elms Lake, Florence Lake, German Lake, Grass Lake, Green Lake, Hoffman Lake, Horseleg Lake, Horseshoe Lake, Hurley Lake, Ice Lake, Joe’s Lake, Knute Lake Krans Lake, Krone Lake, Lake Fannie, Lake Francis, Lesure Heath Lake, Lily Pond, Linderman Lake, Little Pine Lake, Little Stanchfield Lake, Long Lake, Lory Lake, Lower Birch Lake, Marget Lake, Matson Lake, Mud Lake, North Stanchfield Lake, Radke Lake, Rice Lake, Rum Lake, Sandy Lake, Section Lake, Seventeen Lake, Skogman Lake, South Stanchfield Lake, Spectacle Lake, Spirit Lake, Stony Lake, Stratton Lake, Tamarack Lake, Tennyson Lake, Twin Lake, Twin Lakes, Typo Lake, Upper Birch Lake, Upper Rice Lake, West Lake and Williams Lake.
And although many of these lakes have public access, much of the lakeshore property is owned by full time residents and 2nd homeowners.
