This Scott County Realtor is a Member of the Minnesota MLS
As of the year 2000 census, Scott County was home to over 89,000 residents with its county seat of Shakopee, MN. Of those residents, there were 30,692 households and 23,970 families residing within the county. It occupies an area of 369 square miles, 12 of which are water (equaling approximately 3.2%). Those 12 square miles of water include three dozen lakes making Scott an appropriate county in the "Land of 10,000 Lakes"! Some other noteworthy points of interest for Scott County are that it is the home of Elko Speedway, the city of New Prague’s annual Dozinky (Czech Harvest Festival), and renowned horse racing track Canterbury Park.
For other gambling opportunities, Scott County’s 3rd most populous city, Prior Lake, contains the Native American run Little Six Casino. And, in Scott’s most populous city of Shakopee (pronounced "shock-uh-pee"), is the 125 acre amusement park Valleyfair, and renowned Renaissance Festival and Trail of Terror. Valleyfair is the largest amusement park in the Upper Midwest, known for its 60+ rides including 8 roller coasters, officially having opened their doors back in 1976. Also on the grounds is a full water park open Memorial Day to Labor Day.
The Renaissance Festival/Trail of Terror are both hosted on the same land by national Mid-America company and take place only in the summer and fall. The Renaissance Festival, a ‘theme park’ set in the Elizabethan era, boasts an array of Shakespearian-style plays and comedies as well as displays of expertise in falconry, jousting, archery, blacksmithing, glass blowing and other period-related skills, competitions and foods. The Trail of Terror only lasts for the 3 or 4 weeks preceding Halloween and contains events, games and rides all related to the holiday.
