Shakopee Minnesota is a truly interesting part of town from a real estate perspective. It makes available a location in the southwest metro affordable, from townhomes and twin homes under 100K to beautiful 1 million plus homes on the golf course or lake. And the city itself offers no less variety with its 920 acre park and trails, Ice Arena, and SandVenture Aquatic Park.

Shakopee is also home to Valleyfair, a 125 acre amusement park – the largest in the Upper Midwest, with 8 roller coasters and over 50 rides and water attractions, a Minnesota treasure owned by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company. Also located inside the city is Canterbury Park, a setting for live horse racing, simulcast horse racing, poker, and other casino games. Or, if you prefer a trip back in time, in autumn, the Minnesota Renaissance Festival is also open in Shakopee featuring food, costumes and wares from the Renaissance era.

Located in Scott County, Shakopee is also the County Seat, with 37,076 residents as of the 2010 census. Prehistoric burial mounds lie along the river valley cliff and are dates from 500 to 2000 years old. Dakota tribes occupied this area and Chief Shakopee, of the Dakota-Mdewakanton Indians, had a wife (White Buffalo Woman) who had sextuplet boys. Shakopee means “the six”, which is how the Chief got his name. In fact the Shakopee-Mdewakanton Indian Reservation is also home to widely known Mystic Lake Casino and Resort, although that is located in neighboring Prior Lake.

In 1996 when highway 169 was realigned in the direction of the new Bloomington Ferry Bridge, opened the gate for expansion of this previous bedroom community. Now 169, State Highway 13 and County Highway 101 all serve to connect this growing town to the rest of the Twin Cities metro which had previously been somewhat separated by the Minnesota River and valley. Now it’s 28.5 square miles city is easily accessible and welcomes the thousands of local and non-local tourists to its bountiful entertainment resources every year.
