Wright County is located west northwest of the Twin Cities metro area. It is named for New York Senator Silas Wright, Jr. who is most remembered for his later career as governor of New York as a result of declining the democratic vice president nomination in 1844. Its county seat and city of largest current population is the city of Buffalo, although when it was originally founded in 1855 the first 13 years, the county seat was Monticello which was also previously the largest in population. Wright County is known for its strong German and Swedish heritage.
