Minnesota townhouses by definition share certain common amenities, usually at least outside maintenance (lawn care and snow removal), trash and recycling. Because of this classification, it is also a great category to explore to find cabins in Minnesota, since often cabin communities offer exterior maintenance whether you?re at the cabin or not. Often, these will be the listings outside the Twin Cities metro area and frequently ones with smaller square footage than the regular year-round townhouse in Minnesota.

Once you know the general area and criteria for your new town house in Minnesota, you are ready to search the MLS. Many sites offer free MLS searches, so once you log on, you need only specify the criteria you most desire in your town home. Consider minimum square footage, minimum number of bedrooms and baths, even how many cars you prefer to fit in the garage. If you have pets that will be living in the townhouse with you, make sure the complex allows them. Every community of townhomes in Minnesota has a different set of community by-laws with which you will want to be familiar before you finalize your purchase. Ask you Realtor for details, he or she will get you a copy of those after an offer has been accepted, but well before you close.

Once you have selected your new Minnesota townhome and are getting ready to secure the financing for it, keep in mind every townhome community has association dues that go with it as well, depending on what it covers. If the association is only responsible for trash and recycling, for example, it may be only $20 to $30 a month. If it covers more, and perhaps even includes maintenance of the common areas with things like a pool, whirlpool, playgrounds and such, you can expect your townhome association dues to be much higher than that. But again, if this is a concern, let your Realtor know and he/she will narrow the search to only include the MN townhomes that fit your budget.
